Heritage Coast TExtiles
I first fell in love with Vietnam on a family holiday when my children were very small. Without too much time to explore the whole country, we spent most of time along the typical tourist route, visiting Ho Chi Minh in the South, Hanoi in the North, and Hoi An on the eastern central coast. Whilst exploring Hoi An, I also fell in love with An Bang beach and the nearby city of Da Nang, and over our trip we had two separate stays in the region.
The spectacular coastline of this area has a backdrop of majestic lush mountains that tumble towards the sea.
I was so drawn to the quiet beauty found in everyday life, and above all, the warmth, kindness and generosity of the Vietnamese people.
The east coast of Vietnam is known as "The Heritage Coast" due to the incredible centuries-old landmarks and the traditional cultures that you can immerse yourself in everyday life. All of the textiles in this store are sourced and shipped from Da Nang - hence the name Heritage Coast Textiles.
The city of Da Nang is where travellers land and depart this portion of the coast. Da Nang has a vibrant beach scene, but when I first went there I got the impression of a bustling commercial centre rather than a city full of rich culture.
Even though this city may reveal itself slowly, I was soon smitten. Da Nang has narrow alleyways and hidden marketplaces full of vibrant and varied fabrics of every kind, and I was amazed at the quality and price of the food, the ambience of the cafes and the busy, but easy way of life.
By chance, a sewing pattern project I was working on with a team from Da Nang brought me together Ngoc. As fabric store owner, Ngoc hasn't just supported me to find my business feet again, she shared her wisdom, grace and love openly. Together, we share a genuine passion for discovering exceptional textiles and creating opportunities for one another.
